Pere Marquette 1225 is currently in the midst of its 15-year inspection, in accordance with Federal regulations. This inspection requires us to remove all of the tubes and flues from Locomotive 1225 and perform a comprehensive inspection of the entire boiler. The locomotive must remain out of service until we are able to comply with all of the inspection requirements listed in the regulations.

The Steam Railroading Institute is preparing for a costly and time consuming endeavor that will cost the organization nearly $500,000 and could take up to two years to complete. In accordance with our mission, we are working to rebuild the PM 1225 to its original blueprint specifications using (where allowed by modern guidelines) the original methods of forming, welding and riveting of steel parts. Not only will this project keep a historic locomotive in operation, but it will also help extend the knowledge, skills and craftsmanship necessary to enable future generations to have the tools and opportunity for hands-on participation in such preservation efforts.

Our intention is to share our mission and connect each and every one of you with our vision. Please help in preserving railroading history by making your donation today…
